Ducati Dream Tour – Ride to The Golden Land

Powered by Jack n Jill, The Moto Expedition Co.

Ladakh

Flanked by two of the world’s highest mountain ranges of the Great Himalayas and the Karakoram Range, Ladakh is a high-altitude, barren and deserted land which promises some jaw-dropping views and scenery. This barren untouched land also boasts of some patches of green oases filled with Apricot orchards and Poplar trees to name a few. Despite the rough and rugged terrain, the people of Ladakh are humble and have customs that are different and vibrant in nature.

Stay at Manali to get acclimatized with the high altitude.

The highway is open between the month of June and mid‐September when the Border Roads Organisation clears the snow. It connects the Manali valley to Kullu valley, Lahaul‐Spiti, and Ladakh. Leh, the city of Ladakh is the historical transit point for caravans of the bygone Silk Route, and still looks and feels like a trading post from the ancient past. After a leisurely morning here, we ride to the Patthar Sahib Gurudwara, the magnetic hill and the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers. Head back to Leh by evening.

Day 6: Leh

Leh, the capital city of Ladakh is an imminently accessible and fascinating locale, featuring two notable monasteries, a palace, a mosque, and countless narrow & crooked alleyways beckoning the curious visitor. To stroll through Leh, taking in its sights, sounds, and a pleasantly manageable population of just 10,000, is to experience what writer Andrew Harvey called “the peaceful life”.

The town is still dominated by the now ruined Leh Palace, former home of Ladakh’s royal family. It also plays host to a cultural dance show every evening.

We visit the Highest Motorable Road in the world -The KhardungLa Pass. The evening can be spent exploring the markets.

Day 7: Leh –Khardung La –Diskit –Hunder – Turtuk

(Distance: 37km / 71km / 7km / 77 km–192km; Travel Time: 6‐7hrs; Elevation: Khardung La – 5,602m/18,380ft)

Starting early, we cross Khardung La, known as one of the world’s highest motorable passes and then deep into the Nubra Valley to the sand dunes at Hunder. The evening can be spent at the sand dunes. Activities include double hump camel ride and archery. Proceeding further we cross Thoise (Transit halt for Indian Soldiers enroute to Siachen) air base to reach Turtuk. The highlight of this trip, the remote village of Turtuk, which was once a part of Baltistan, is open to travelers. Besides the amazing scenery, there is an ancient fort and a monastery, natural springs with healing properties and pearls which can be picked up on the mountains. The area boasts of rare wildlife: marmots, ibex and the elusive snow leopard. We spend the day exploring the area and stay at the Turtuk Holiday Camp, a brand new property surrounded by Apricot orchards. You can see Pakistan and Karakorum Range from this village. Before 1971 this village was in Pakistan.
